What better time of year is there to entertain with family and friends than the fall, especially in Northern California’s beautiful wine country? Inspired by the rich berry and copper colors of fall fashion, saturated brown and ocher wood stained tones, and the seasonal farm produce found in the Paula LeDuc garden, we’re sharing 5 tips to create the most heart-fluttering holiday tablescape from Jesse Tombs and Kathleen Deery.
1. Embrace Your Space: “It’s all about finding the perfect backdrop for your table. At Viansa, I particularly fell in love with the rustic painted shutters with wrought iron hinges so I selected Urban Parlour’s black iron klismos chairs to connect the iron materials.” – Kathleen
2. Pick Your Main Pieces: “Stoneware chargers from March topped with terracotta linen napkins and matching taper candles drove the color palette for the table. Food styling was kept simple, with vessels of organic materials: ceramic, terracotta, marble and wood.” – Jesse
3. Don’t Be Afraid to DIY: Kathleen made the tablecloth from scratch with the perfect Ralph Lauren tobacco-colored herringbone Belgian Linen from a local fabric store. On site she cut the linen to fit the table and simply frayed the end edges leaving the selvedge edge in tact. This gave the table a relaxed but graceful look.
4. Add Accents: “Knowing the tobacco linen needed a lift, I gathered my personal collection of Astier de Villatte vases and fruit compotes. The stark white would be a welcoming contrast to the dark chairs and the rich linen.” – Kathleen
5. The Finishing Touch: With the season in mind, Kathleen sourced both fresh fruit and floral elements in warm tones: Cafe Au Lait dahlias and elegant peach Evelyn garden roses supported by trailing clematis flowers in rich tones and rich plum foliage. Clusters of pomegranates and mini pears were the icing on the cake!
