Happy Summer Solstice! In celebration of the longest (and quite possibly hottest) day of the year, we’re chilling out with Leela Cyd and her famous DIY Unicones.
This recipe is easy to prepare, adds a serious wow-factor to any Summertime fete, and will please kids and adults alike. Add a couple of scoops of ice cream and you have the world’s most perfect dessert.
Unicones
Makes 10 cones
• 1 Dark Chocolate Bar (4 ounces), cut into pieces
• 1 White Chocolate bar (4 ounces), cut into pieces
• 10 Ice Cream Cones
• ½ Cup Sprinkles (having a few different types is great!)
• ½ Cup Dried Edible Untreated Rose Petals or Candied Flowers
• 1/4 Cup Crushed M&M’s
• 1/4 Cup Crushed Cookies
• Any other toppings your heart desires!
Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 10-second bursts, stirring between each, until melted. Alternatively, you can melt it in a double boiler.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set out all the toppings (sprinkles, rose petals, M&M’s and crushed cookies) in small bowls.
Dip the top two inches of the cone into the melted chocolate, then roll the chocolate side in each small bowl of topping or sprinkle a little bit of all the toppings onto the wet chocolate. Work quickly as things can get messy and drippy. Place the finished cones on the baking sheet, opening side down. Let dry. If working on a hot day, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to set.
Top with your favorite ice cream or gelato, and don’t forget the champagne! Everything’s better with a bit of bubbly.
