Our hearts aflutter for Jill + Ryan’s tropical Haiku Mill wedding. The historic Hawaiian venue is one we dream of- blossoming with love and lush natural beauty at every turn. Add a charming couple and the destination dream gets dreamier. These “I Do’s” are simple, sweet, filled with love, and a bit of humor. Congrats Jill + Ryan!
Bits + Tips from The Bride…
On Haiku Mill: Ryan is originally from Hawaii. Out of the blue, I had saved a picture of Haiku Mill I found online because I loved how magical and lush and green it looked, not even knowing it was in Hawaii! When we discovered that Haiku Mill was in Maui, we booked a ticket to Maui to see it in person and immediately fell in love. The venue is truly enchanting and we knew our guests would appreciate all the little details from Haiku Mill as we did.
On Her Dress: My wedding dress is from J.Crew. I love the simplicity and elegance that comes with an understated dress and honestly just wanted to stay away from anything that looked too much like a wedding dress. As odd as this sounds, I didn’t want to look like a bride. The thought of that made me uncomfortable. I really wanted to feel like myself (just in a white dress), and this dress was perfect for that. After the ceremony I switched to a shorter dress with little metallic fringes from Thakoon.
On Those Sweet Golden Place Settings: We wanted to make we included our French Bulldog, Harvey. Ryan and I learned how to make molds and we sculpted little figurines of him. It was a long, long, long couple of months we spent making molds, waiting for them to dry, then painting them gold, since we had to do them one-by-one. However, it was worth it and we love that our little gold Harvey’s now live on the bookshelves or dressers of our good friends and family. 🙂
On The Oil Painting: We have some amazing, creative, and mischievous friends. A few of them got together and got an oil painting of us done as a replica of “American Goth” by Grant Wood but with our faces in it instead, along with our french bulldog, Harvey. They worked with the ladies of Haiku Mill to put it up without us knowing so that it was the first thing we would see when we walked down the aisle after our ceremony. It was such a wonderful wedding present.
