Driving through the Provence countryside is a pleasure in itself. Traveling down charming winding roads, passing by lush fields of wildflowers, vineyards, and farmland, through quaint towns and villages. You realize that you are surrounded by all things you love and you are inspired.
One evening during the May Hearts Aflutter Tour, we wandered off to the village of Gordes. As we neared the end of our 30-minute journey, traveling around that last bend our breaths were taken away. We stopped, taking a moment of silence and reflection for the magnificence that stood before us.
Our destination was La Bastide de Gordes. Built on 12th century ramparts, the luxurious hideaway is nestled within the heart of the medieval hillside. Inside, its walls are decorated in the refined quintessential charm and romance of the countryside. There are three gourmet restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Pèir. Outside, its grounds are laced with gardens, fairytale-like terraces, swimming pools, and phenomenal views.
An Epicurean’s Delight
We dined in La Bastide de Gordes open-air l’Orangerie with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Luberon Valley.
Joy Proctor worked with our friends, Stephanie Fayolle and Céline Jean, to design an evening reflective of the region and the splendid culinary experience of Bastide de Gordes. Over a few bottles of Château Fontvert Rouge 2015, we enjoyed Provencal cuisine as its finest.
Heirloom tomatoes, burrata and basil salad
we could talk about this burrata for days…
Provencal free range chicken breast
simple, yet exquisite
Thin apple tart with salted caramel ice cream
divine down to the last bite!
The airy organic tablescape was covered in a striped, French-gray linen and lined with sage green candles and fresh potted herbs in assorted basket, stone, and ceramic vessels. Crème de Papier designed a minimalistic velem menu that was accented with a fragrant sprig of lavender.
