A highlight for 2018 was during the “Champagne & Castles” Hearts Aflutter Tour, where we had the rare opportunity to visit Laurent-Perrier in Epernay, France.
The renowned champagne house was created in 1812 and boasts blends of both finesse and elegance. We spent a few hours touring the grounds (with over 50,000 bottles of Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé underneath our feet!), learning of the spirit of the culture, the passion and prestige behind the process, and finally tasting the exquisite selection of crisp elegant bubbles formed when art and nature converge. Needless to say, we left with an overwhelming appreciation for the art of champagne making. Thank you, Frédérique and Margaux, for sharing a delicious bit of Laurent-Perrier with us!
We hired a driver and took a day trip from Paris to the Champagne capital of Epernay. Driving through the countryside was as picturesque as one could imagine with rolling vineyards, rivers and charming villages. Upon entering the Laurent-Perrier grounds we found ourselves mesmerized by their colorful and most heart-fluttering gardens…not to mention that we were standing within one of the finest purveyors of champagne!
We sipped our way through six champagnes:
1. Laurent-Perrier Ultra Brut: This was the driest champagne that we tasted with no extra sugar added. Pairs great with sushi and ceviche as well as young parmesan.
2. Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée – You’ll find yourself enjoying this champagne to be the perfect apéritif. Its citrus and white fruit notes pair well with just about any food.
3. Laurent-Perrier Brut Millésimé: The nose on this bubbly stole our hearts. Pairs great with terrines, ham, poultry and other white meats.
4. Grand Siécle by Laurent-Perrier: With 100% Grand Crus, it’s the cream of the crop combining the best years of Laurent-Perrier into one bottle. Pairs great with seafood.
5. Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé: Admittedly one of our favorites to celebrate with! Pairs great with seafood, parma ham, exotic dishes and red fruit desserts.
6. Laurent-Perrier Harmony: This Demi-Sec is great for delighting in over dessert!
We’ll be ringing in the new year with a Laurent-Perrier toast. Cheers to 2019, friends!
