Bringing Humankindness Home
Project Humankindess was built on the idea of sharing through simple acts of kindness. Looking for ways to give back through the brand, the vision was clear: doing what we do best and sharing in the art of experience. Project Humankindess initiates creative collaboration within a network of artists around the world, uniting underprivileged communities with opportunities and experiences in skilled craft. The privilege of growing up with the opportunity to create, experience and educate ourselves in various skills of interest has been a driving force in who we’ve become today, the businesses we’ve built, and the power behind this movement. Whilst in-person experiences are on hold, we’re dedicated to our mission of bringing humankindness home through the Project Humankindness Shop.
About The Shop
The Project Humankindness Shop is a fair trade entity. All products sold on Project Humankindess are handcrafted by women artisans in vulnerable underserved communities around the world. The thoughtful collection is curated with one-of-a-kind limited edition pieces.
Proceeds from products sold through Project Humankindess directly benefit the women artisans we work with. Your purchase directly helps contribute to the education, health, empowerment, WASH programs and community development within their respective communities and villages – profoundly improving their quality of life.
How are we doing this? Behind the scenes we are working directly with the inspiring women leaders on the ground who are empowering their humankind with their craft, all while utilizing the indigenous resources they have at hand: grasses, dyes, fibers, and various other natural materials.
At the heart of Project Humankindness our ethos shines bright. Each product is designed with a passion for improving quality of life. A vibrant sense of spirit lives within every product purchased. We are dedicated to celebrating the women artisans that we have the pleasure of working with, and their beautiful cultures, through our creative collaborations. We believe simplicity is the ultimate sophistication and with that we embrace a timeless aesthetic through a simple artisan movement. As they say in Eswatini, Tandla Tiyagenzana, which means One Hand Washes The Other. Together, their hands to ours, and ours to theirs, we can make a difference.
Where It All Began
The shop at Project Humankindness was inspired by a trip to South Africa in December 2017. Kindred spirits Joy Proctor and Kim Wiseley embarked on a wildly beautiful adventure to Joy’s homeland in Swaziland. During their trip they spent time at Gone Rural – an organization founded on empowering women through their natural artform of weaving. It’s here where Joy and Kim were able to connect with the women weavers, understanding the power and beauty of creativity for social change. With a desire to share the stories and artisan products with their peers, the brainstorming began and a passion for the project ignited.
