Do: Scout the city(s) by bicycle.
Splurge: And stay at Grand Hotel Tremezzo, an iconic lake-front resort that sits adjacent to Villa Carlotta’s famed gardens, boasts spectacular views of Bellagio, and has a floating pool right in Lake Como. Don’t forget your favorite over-sized sunnies and floppy hat!
Speaking Of… You must wander through Villa Carlotta’s magnificent two square miles of breathtaking botanic gardens that date back to the 17th century.
Go Fish: Not quite! But do dine on the fresh catch from Le Specialità Lariane.
Shop: Silk. Basically silk is to Lake Como as blown glass is to Venice. Scour the markets and designer shops for your stylish souvenir.
Katie’s Travel Tip: The Lake is dotted with many small towns that are just meant for exploring and wandering your day away. The ferry, which takes you to the various towns, does have very specific departure times and you need to stick to them or you could be paying for an incredibly expensive cab ride in the evening!
