At our recent Issue No. 6 release party I had the great privilege of donning the darling Ella Dress by Los Angeles-based designer Jannina Figueroa of Madeleine Fig.
I first laid eyes on the Madeleine Fig collection during Bridal Fashion Week at The Knot’s Couture Show in the fall of 2014. As I stumbled upon the Madeleine Fig booth I felt my heart skip a beat! After days of perusing through hundreds of booths filled to the brim with insanely gorgeous bridal attire, here was something entirely fresh and unique (and insanely gorgeous, too). I swooned!
My heart was aflutter as I danced through stylishly innovative gowns, dresses and accessories that were truly one-of-a-kind. In the Madeleine Fig collection no two pieces are alike. Each piece is made up of the most beautiful textural mixes and overlays, unique fabrics and sweet embellishments; all designed with a vintage yet modern flair for the fashion-forward bride. There is something special for every silhouette and I remember wishing I could try every piece on.
Fast forward six months and my wish came true when I visited the Madeleine Fig design house and showroom in downtown Los Angeles. Every single piece is handcrafted right there! What an inspiring place! Jannina (a 26-year-old FIDM grad) shares the space with her mom Liz who runs an international textile business- no wonder her collection incorporates such amazing fabrics! The design duo have the most infectious energy and I could rave about them for days. They’ve even started a non-profit called Warm A Heart that provides blankets for those in need. I’ll be sharing the details on that soon.
When it came to choosing a dress one of the things that originally caught my attention was Jannina’s line of fun and flirty shift dresses (aka ‘shorties’). These little white statement dresses range from simple and sweet to stylishly sexy. I tried just about every one on (thank you, Jannina!) and fell in love with each for a different reason. I finally said yes to a dress with the Ella. Its shimmery embellished neckline added just the right amount of glitz and glam for the cocktail-style event we were having at BHLDN– not to mention that BHDLN sells exclusive Madeleine Fig designs. It was party perfect!

The Madeleine Fig collection has versatility and can be worn way past the ‘big day.’ Jannina also designs a collection of capes, veils, robes, intimates and other accessories that can be mixed and matched for a truly unique look. Here are a few of the styles I captured at the recent Spring ’15 Knot Couture Show.
This is the Ella in a soft peach sherbet color. I’m in love!
Follow Jannina at www.madeleinefig.com as she continues to set hearts aflutter. We can’t wait to see the new designs she showcases at fall market!
